You don’t have to quit your job to start your business, you can do it while still doing your day job. You’ve got to devote time and energy and be more productive than busy to get your business off the ground.

  • Use your day job to build skills –

When you hustling on the side, sometimes being at the day job may make you feel unproductive or futile. Rather than feeling that way, why not try and use your day job to learn skills that would help you build your business? Get a better understanding of the market through market research projects or may be take a sales assignment to boost up your pitching and interaction skills. You never know how the new skills can help you boost your business or open new doors for you.

When at work, your job is your priority however, you can still work on growing your business in the pockets of time. Watch a self development video or listen to podcast while traveling or during lunch hour. Use your time wisely.

  • Use other people’s money to start your business –

You don’t have to invest thousands of dollars into creating websites, hiring marketers or buying inventory. You can leverage marketplaces and suppliers to get started.

You can take advantage of drop shipping companies or dropshipping suppliers that would let you sell products without paying upfront. You pay for products that sell and after they sell. Learning more about what is drop shipping will ease off pressure to stock in inventory.

Secondly, you can use existing marketplaces like eBay to sell your products and test the market. It’s free, has millions of sales per day and will give you the traffic you need to get your business off the ground. Other alternatives include – etsy, Amazon or bonanza. You’ll spend minimum cost for listing your item, but will have tons of traffic to leverage and sell your product.

  • Be productive –

It’s not easy to build a business in the pockets of your time but it’s not impossible as well. All you need is a fixed system. The amount of time and effort you put into growing your business will be directly proportionate to the results it will yield for you. Therefore, no matter how many hours you work, before your day job, in the evening or during commute, make sure it is just for your business. Just like your day job has fixed hours, it is essential to follow the same concept while starting or running your own business. Don’t take or do any other work during that time frame. Don’t let anything distract you. Being an entrepreneur will not pay you on hourly basis but on the amount of effort you will put into it.
